WHY PARTNERSHIPS MATTER

Partnerships Built on Shared Standards

Strong partnerships improve outcomes—for clients, communities, and the places people rely on. The best ones are not transactional. They are built on shared standards, clear purpose, and work that becomes stronger when it is aligned.

SOT is a small, instructor-led consultancy based in coastal Maine. We are not interested in promotional relationships for their own sake. We are interested in working with organizations that share our standards around preparedness, stewardship, safety, responsible access, and practical education.

Some partnerships are already established. Others are still taking shape. The point is simple: build relationships that help people become more capable, more responsible, and better prepared for the environments they move through.

What We Look For

What We Look For in a Partner

SOT looks for organizations that share the standards behind our work. Not partners that simply look good on a list, but organizations that are genuinely aligned in how they approach preparedness, stewardship, safety, and responsible access.

Practical Education

Organizations that believe skill, judgment, and hands-on learning matter more than gear lists or theory alone.

Responsible Recreation

Groups that take access seriously and understand that how people travel matters as much as where they go.

Preparedness & Safety

Partners who treat preparedness and safety as real commitments to the people they serve—not just a formality or disclaimer.

Land Stewardship

Organizations working to protect the places people use through education, responsible use, and long-term care.

Self-Reliance

Partners who value building capability in people, not just delivering services to them.

Community & Access

Organizations that understand access is maintained through trust, responsible use, and long-term care.

Forms of Collaboration

How Partnership Can Take Shape

Effective partnerships do not need to be complicated. In most cases, the best collaborations are straightforward: two organizations doing useful work in the same direction, for the same people.

Co-Hosted Training Events

Shared training events that bring SOT instruction into an organization's gatherings, member events, or scheduled programming—adding practical readiness education to an existing community.

Educational Outreach & Workshops

Workshops on first aid awareness, trip planning, communications readiness, and related skills—built with partner organizations and delivered to shared audiences.

Stewardship Messaging & Content

Collaborative content that connects preparedness with responsible access, reinforcing the idea that being prepared is part of using places responsibly.

Equipment Orientation

Practical orientation to communications equipment, recovery tools, or safety gear—focused on competent use, not product promotion.

Event Presence & Outreach

SOT participation at partner events, club gatherings, rallies, or expos—bringing a preparedness and stewardship perspective to spaces where it is often missing.

Place-Based Instruction

Instruction developed with local clubs, land managers, or access-focused organizations—grounded in the terrain, conditions, and use patterns that matter to a specific community.

Who We Seek to Work With

Organizations We Work Well With

SOT is interested in working with organizations of many sizes—from national nonprofits to local clubs—when the alignment is real and the work serves a clear purpose. Size is not the deciding factor. Shared standards, useful overlap, and mission fit matter more.

  • Nonprofits and conservation organizations
  • Mission-aligned outdoor and overland brands
  • Communications, navigation, and preparedness equipment companies
  • Outdoor education and skills-based training organizations
  • Land trusts, trail groups, and access advocates
  • Emergency preparedness and public safety organizations
  • Regional clubs and member communities with a stewardship focus
  • Community organizations serving overlapping audiences and goals

A Note on Fit

SOT is a small operation, and we intend to stay deliberate about who we work with. We are not trying to build a long partner roster or collect logos. We are looking for relationships where there is real overlap in mission, audience, and educational goals.

That means we move carefully. We would rather build a few meaningful collaborations than a long list of nominal affiliations, and we would rather start with a conversation than a formal arrangement.

If there seems to be a real fit, reach out. Tell us what you are building, who it serves, and where you think the overlap exists.
